then to P2P and then reductive animation and then the usual A/B extraction work up

Benzyl chloride -> benzyl cyanide has good yield
But benzyl chloride is a nasty chemical and crude benzyl cyanide is still impure and in order to refine benzyl cyanide you have to distill it and someone thinks that would be poisonous and poses life-threatening hazards for an amateur chemist ...

Someone would just buy benzyl cyanide to not risk any poison vapors..
