I have come back inside of my lab and found my triple necked round bottom flask smashed into pieces.
Does any body know an alternative piece of equipment I can use that I can find inside of my house?

I cannot afford to wait another 2 weeks for it to arrive.

Careful, metal reactors usually have a coating inside to keep them inert from the mixture. Glass is not only transparent and inert but also heatable to some extent. Polyethylene (HDPE and LDPE) as well as polypropylene are inert but not transparent nor heatable. Scale-up should come with experience.

in my country 4mmc 4cmc 4cmc they made in mauzer 1000l and all big lab made like this way u can use glaass or plastic bottel.
I see people who heat plastic bottel on 40°c on dcm and no explode or u can use nmp mix also and no explode u need only mix 30min this all.

@G.Patton I would like to try out this synthesis using a 5L, triple necked round bottom flask first. Can I just scale up/scale down the masses of the reagents used in the with the ratio of the size of my flask and the size of the flask shown in the video?

Hello, yes. Pay attestation, that it's worth to take bigger flask if you have doubts. You have to leave at least half of a reactor (flask) empty.

wow if you add all that methylamine at once and its already at 40C, there will be a lot of pyrazines formation ... always add methylamine with funel slow and you dont need to be hot while adding the reaction is already exotermic

In my oppinion the result depends on the amount of HCl. So if you get lower concentration, you just need to use more.

It was extremely smelly and directly burned in my eyes. Is this correct.

Is there any possibility to use smaller quantitys of chemicals?
I just calculated productions-costs and an amount of 20 Liters NMP is already quite expensive.

The final product will have quite high production-cost cause of these big chemical amounts.
When we start from "2-iodo-4'-methylpropiophenone" there are much smaller quantitys of chemicals... right?

Can anyone tell me more about doing this synthesis in DMSO, should I go by 1:5 ketone:dmso ratio? (375ml dmso per 75gr bk)
I did it multiple times, ran 30minutes or 1hour... in hot water bath also.
I end up with clean solution and then product, no single trace of ketone left but my yields are low sometimes (about 20-25g from 75gr bk)
Is that because I run reaction longer than needed or should I run it more?
And what is correct amount of dmso per bk? Thanks in advance
