Da, are dreptate. HI 57% va face treaba foarte bine, însă trebuie să folosiți un exces bun de acesta, concentrația trebuie să rămână > 40% tot timpul. Puteți reduce cantitatea de HI necesară prin adăugarea de H3PO4 85%+ pe parcursul reacției, ceea ce o va deshidrata și va menține concentrația funcțională de HI ridicată. Atenție! nu doriți să împingeți HI în afară!
O altă modalitate este de a produce HI in situ din acid fosforic și NaI sau KI.
Și, desigur, H3PO3 va funcționa foarte bine ca înlocuitor pentru RP sau H3PO2 - este nevoie de o cantitate mai mare și de temperaturi mai ridicate, dar funcționează excelent. H3PO4/NaI sau KI necesită temperaturi și mai ridicate.
