If you read your article, you would know that it is about smuggling with helps of Mx cartels. Every chemistry student can make this, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to produce some meth from ephedrine.

I have got a batch of yellow stinky crystals now, can i soak it in Toluene instead of ether?
Also, for ether, may i know exactly which Ether is this? Is it Petroleum Ether?

You can try
Usually ether means diethyl ether, nevertheless you can try petroleum ether.

Well, ive tried, Petroleum ether got rid of the smell but smelled like petroleum a little now.

Toluene i tried soaking it for a few days. It still remained yellow.

You should dry it well with vacuum. I think it helps. Probably you have used not distilled petroleum ether. Am I right?

Seems that the instructions for xtal formation in this write up are based on racemic. It's in contradiction to other write ups. Will be interesting to see the results over time.
