Ja, hij heeft gelijk. HI 57% zal het werk prima doen, maar je moet er wel een goede overmaat van gebruiken, de concentratie moet de hele tijd > 40% blijven. Je kunt de benodigde hoeveelheid HI verminderen door in de loop van de reactie H3PO4 85%+ toe te voegen, waardoor het ontwatert en de functionele HI-concentratie hoog blijft. Pas op, je wilt de HI er niet uit persen!
Een andere manier is om de HI ter plekke te maken van fosforzuur en NaI of KI.
En natuurlijk werkt H3PO3 heel goed als vervanging voor RP of H3PO2 - je hebt er meer van nodig en hogere temperaturen, maar het werkt geweldig. H3PO4/NaI of KI heeft nog hogere temperaturen nodig.
