If I use ethyl acetate instead of benzene and dmso instead of nmp, are the ratios the same?

hello in the synthesis video tutorial if I understand correctly can I skip the first steps with bromine? if I have ready 2-bromo-4-methylpropiophenone because at the beginning bromine is needed to get 2-bromo-4-methylpropiophenone
