Methylenating A Phenylacetone?

I'm wondering if someone acquired 3,4 dihydroxyphenylacetone, if they could methylenate it like protocatechualdehyde.

Would there be any problems with such a synthesis?

... uhm what? I guess you're trying to get alpha methyl dopamine / 3,4 dihydroxyamphetamine?

Then 3,4 dihydroxyphenylacetone is the imminent precursor for that - one reductive amination away.

From protocatechualdehyde aka 3,4 dihydroxybenzaldehyde it is a lot more work involved but on the other hand protocatechualdehyde is easier to get your hands on than 3,4 dihydroxyphenylacetone. You should try to be more precise in your questions and let people know what you're actually after.
