Police obtained the warrant due to intelligence gathered earlier this year. At the time, officers on call in the Golden Triangle spotted "a possible makeshift clandestine drug lab," an Ottawa police spokesperson wrote in a press release.
"This information was passed on by narcotics investigators and clandestine lab experts, including Health Canada, and they became suspicious that the lab was producing dangerous drugs: amphetamine and methamphetamine."
Police and other emergency responders shut down the intersection of Cartier and McLaren streets to conduct a swift search of the lab. Paramedics and officers from Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Operations were also present during the search.
The search resulted in the discovery of laboratory equipment, as well as some synthetic stimulant production precursors and already prepared drugs. All the substances were sent to Health Canada for analysis.
Eric E. Kunstrup, 38, and Stacey Emily McLennan, 32, are charged with possession and manufacture of drugs. Both defendants were released on promise to appear in court.
