Brazilian police found and dismantled a large cocaine laboratory capable of producing up to two tons of the drug a week. It is reported that the criminals had set up cocaine production right on the grounds of one of the largest protected nature reserves in the world.
The Brazilian Federal Police report that on February 28, one of the largest cocaine processing facilities ever found in the region was discovered on the Bolivian side of Noel Kempf Mercado National Park. Noel Kempf Mercado is one of the largest national parks in the Amazon Basin and is home to a rich variety of flora and bird species.
The criminals equipped the lab with a sophisticated satellite Internet system, an underground generator, and even two runways for small planes. During the raid, police were able to arrest four people, two of them Bolivian nationals, one Colombian and one Brazilian.
It is reported that the laboratory had been operating on the reserve since 2020. And in 2021, police had already found equipment and precursors for cocaine production in the park.
