Serotonin is a tryptamine, and so is bufotenin. The only difference between the two is that bufotenin has two methyl groups where the NH2 group should be:
WgIBseU8jL

In theory could someone get a potent enough methylating agent to do this in one step?
If this is possible, then it should also be possible to get DMT:

Serotonin =[Methylation]=> Bufotenin
Bufotenin =[Dehydroxylating]=> N,N-Dimethyltryptamine

Is this feasable? Or is it easier to just go extract DMT/Bufotenin?

The pathway you suggest is not taken into account since serotonin is a pricy chemical and bufotenin can be easily extracted from Yopo seeds without trouble (those are legal as well as bufotenin). To selectively dimethylate the alpha amine without methylating the indole 1N heteroatom is near to impossible as well as the etherification of the phenolic OH into methoxy. So bufotenin is related to 5MeODMT but not the same... in my possession would serve me to obtain other 5-substituted DMT derivatives.
