It's an easier method for amatuers, but the yield it's kinda good, problem is that, Hypophosphorous acid, or sodium hypophosphite it's not for sale to individuals, so to get hypophosphorous acid or Na HPP it's a pain in the ass
I think you got your temperatures wrong or mixed up with red p/I2 synthesis. Heating this reaction up to 160 deg would be dangerous. Heating above 110°C causes hypophosphorous acid to undergo disproportionation to give phosphorous acid and phosphine gas which can and will spontaneously ignite. Phosphine is extremely toxic. I don’t recommend heating this over 100 deg Celsius .

hi there, can you help me with something, im note sure about the rations by reaction of 3000g ephedrine via H3PO4 . Last time by reacting 1000g of ephedrin by temperature 130C for 8 hours i used 1500 g of iodine and 630 ml of H3PO4 and 600 ml H2O...ineed to be sure about the rations. Please can confirm or maybe give me som advice if im doing something not corect, thanx in advance
